1. What does DRM mean?

DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a digital copy protection system that prevents documents from being copied or shared without authorization.
A DRM-protected document can only be used on a single computer. When the document is opened for the first time, it is bound to that computer and cannot be opened on any other device.

2. How can I tell if a document is DRM-protected?

DRM-protected documents are clearly labelled as such in our online shop at dinmedia.de/en.

3. How do I open DRM-protected documents?

  1. Install Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat
  2. Install the FileOpen plugin:
    • Close Adobe Reader/Acrobat
    • Download the plugin from https://plugin.fileopen.com
    • Start and complete the installation (the file FileOpen.api will be stored in Adobe’s plugin folder)
    • Restart Adobe Reader/Acrobat
  3. Open the document directly in Adobe Reader/Acrobat
(Opening via browser or other PDF applications is not supported)

4. Can I copy or print the document?

  • Copying: No. DRM-protected documents cannot be copied.
  • Printing: Yes, printing is usually possible. For some documents, the number of printouts is limited.
Details can be found here: Übersicht - Dokumente mit DRM-Schutz

5. Can I use a DRM-protected document on multiple computers?

No. A DRM-protected document can only be opened on the computer on which it was first opened.
For use on multiple computers or by multiple users, a network licence is required.

6. What if the document is intended for another person?

You may order and download the document but do not open it yourself.
In this case, download the order as a ZIP file and forward it unopened to the intended recipient.
